The original lawsuit in this case is called the Vaughn v. LA Fitness International, LLC. Actually this settlement consists of 3 lawsuits that have been combined. So the class representatives are Kenneth J. Silver, Joshua Vaughn and Lori C. Bohn and Amalia Sible. Some other representatives also include Sharon N. Lockett and Justin P. Bonzell. The reason for this lawsuit is that it did not process the request to cancel memberships. This is a breach of contract. The language was also confusing as to how much advance notice had to be given in order to cancel the membership and get the prepaid last month’s dues. So if you think that you are eligible to get any benefits, then you can go to the www.USGymSettlement.com site in order to get more information on what you will need to do.

The time period for the LA Fitness Membership Cancellation Class Action Lawsuit Settlement is between May 18, 2006 to January 1, 2013. You are not eligible if you had the membership in California. You are also excluded if you are a member of the New Jersey Class Action Settlement. So if you are eligible, and are a class member, you will get a 45 day club access pass which is worth about $45. So you or someone you give this pass to on the first day will be able to use the LA Fitness club for 45 days in a row. You may also be a subclass member. It is really easy to file your claim if you have all your information ready. So I would suggest that you go through the claim form in order to figure out what you need.

In order to file it, you will need the Claim ID and Access Code. You will find both in the postcard that you received in the mail. The deadline for you to submit this online or by regular mail is August 9, 2013. This class and subclasses can be very confusing. In fact I am confused. So if you are not sure and would like to find out what to file for, do contact the settlement administrator who will be able to tell you which class you fall into. If you decide to stay as a class member or a subclass member, then you can also file an objection if you wish to do that. Basically this means that you want to tell the court that you do not like something about the case. It can be anything. When you file your objection, also include information on whether you want to go to the Fairness Hearing. You can also list the witnesses that you can call upon for live testimony. This can also include oral deposition. You can also get an affidavit from the witness during the hearing. If you wish to file the objection, then you must do so by August 9, 2013.

The Fairness Hearing will be on September 19, 2013. This is when the court will decide if the settlement is fair. This is also when the court will listen to any and all objections. If you had told the court that you were going to speak, then this is when you will get your chance to do this. You cannot speak if you did not request first. Another thing that the court will do is to decide on the amount of the fees and other expenses. If you had not requested to speak, you do not need to attend this hearing in order for you to get your benefits. So if you do not live in Philadelphia, PA where the hearing will be held, you do not need to book airfares or rent cars to get there.  Also if you decide that you want to opt out of the LA Fitness Membership Cancellation Class Action Lawsuit Settlement, you will not be able to speak at the hearing even if you wanted to.

Your free trip includes hotel stay and airfare. What a fantastic trip this could be. You will have to enter some personal information in order to complete your entry.

I would suggest that you read the official rules first before you enter. You may find out that you are not eligible or that you may not like the prize after all. You must be at least 18 years old in order to be eligible to win the price. You must also live in the United States. The sweepstakes actually started on April 29. The end of the promotional period is May 20, 2013. So this means that you will not be able to enter the Chevrolet CMA Music Festival Sweepstakes at www.chevrolet.com/cmasweeps site after that date. There are two ways that you can enter. One of them is online of course. I usually go for this option however this time I am hesitant. The reason is because when you enter online, you basically are agreeing to getting emails that are commercial in nature from GM or GM dealers. So if you do not want to get these emails, then you should mail in your entry.

I know that is much more of a pain but all you need is a  3×5 card. Just write your name, your street address, your phone number and mail it in an envelope to the address provided. I of course want to win the lottery – who doesn’t? But I will take a sweepstake or two any day. I remember this lady who actually won a house. However when she got it, she realized that she would have to pay taxes for the house and did not have the money to do that. So she was trying to sell the house. I guess that is very good because you will still get some money. Target.com/Education – Target Gives Millions For Education

Target is giving millions of dollars away for education according to Target.com/Education.  In fact, Target plans on giving one billion dollars away by the end of fiscal year 2015.  That is truly a noble endeavor and one that benefits the community.  Watch the acceptance to college video on their page and, if you are like me, you will probably smile and shed a tear.  It is truly a touching spot.  So many kids dream of going to college and getting that acceptance letter is a memorable moment in one’s life. The reactions of all the people are incredible.  The elation can be easily seen on their faces. I especially like the one where the friends or the family members who are nearby also get excited too. I remember when I got my letter that I was accepted to college, I was thrilled and excited.  I remember jumping for joy and being so happy with my achievement.  Unfortunately, I didn’t have the money to pay for it.  As a result, reality sank in and I had to find ways to pay for college.  I remember I applied for scholarships.  I asked the college if they had an financial aid programs for me as well.  I even asked them if I could get work study.  Luckily, I received a scholarship from a service organization not affiliated with the school.  Then, with a scholarship in hand, I could really celebrate the fact that I was going to college. 

The dream of going to college starts long before you apply.  There is a lot of hard work involved in studying and preparing for that day.  But there is more to it than that.  It takes the hard work of teachers, often times family members to support you, and the community at large.  That is why I am so impressed with Target.  Target makes that commitment to education as articulated on their Target.com/Education site.  For example, they mention their dedication to learning by supporting activities and programs that help children read.  Like Target, I also believe reading is important.  When I was younger I struggled to read.  As school progressed, I got further behind in my reading skill level. At one point, teachers thought it might be in my best interest to be held back a grade.  Fortunately, our school had some reading specialists that worked with me and got me caught up to speed.  I remember doing a lot of work with flashcards to learn how to pronounce words too.  Eventually, I got caught up with my classmates and my reading level, although still slow, produced great comprehension.  My path to becoming a life long learner was forged.  

If you haven’t taken the opportunity to read about the contributions that Target has made, I think you will enjoy the articles on the Target.com education page.  The grants that Target has given to education is absolutely impressive.  They have helped make field trips possible.  In addition, they have given away early childhood grants for reading.  They even are dedicated to supporting arts and culture. We all probably remember when we went on a field trip when we were in elementary school. Usually, we remember those as fun days.  I remember them as unique learning opportunities and I am glad that Target is helping make them feasible. I don’t think my school experience would have been the same without those field trip opportunities. 

If you are interested in Target grants, there is lots of important information to be found on this topic on the www.Target.com/Education page.  You can learn a little bit more about the background on the grants and more about the guidelines.  They even have listed recipients of grants too for you to peruse.  After reading that, the magnitude of the giving was obvious to me.  The Target Education grants are numerous.  More importantly, I feel they are doing a world of good. Hopefully, if you are in high school you will apply for college and get accepted.  Who knows, maybe we will see you celebrate your reaction to getting accepted.  If you do get accepted, follow my advice and explore how to pay for college.  In fact, I would encourage you to start applying for as many college scholarships as you can when you start applying for college. Furthermore, I would also encourage you to begin the process of applying for college financial aid at that time as well.  I want you to truly be able to rejoice about going to college when you get that acceptance letter and not to worry about how you are going to pay for it like I had to.  In fact, maybe you will get notices that you have won scholarships before you get your actual acceptance to the university of your choosing.
