Grimm is a TV show on NBC that is based on the Grimm Brothers’ Fairy Tales. The story revolves around Portland Homicide Detective Nick Burkhart. He slowly descends into a world that has put his finacee in a coma and his partner in a state of mental breakdown. Nick has to get help from two reformed Grimm creatures to help him against all the evil that surrounds them. Grimm is shown on Mondays at 10 p.m. Eastern. Now some of you may be wondering how you can get the same look at the creatures on TV. It is not easy but it can be done. It will not take years but it will definitely take an hour or two. So if you are ready to transform into these creatures, let us get started. There is a step by step how to guide on the Parade Magazine website at parade.com/grimm. Barney Burman the professional make-up  FX artist who creates these creatures for NBC was asked this question of how someone could be transformed into one of these creatures at home. He says that he is a professional and he has all the fancy equipment he needs at work.

So he asked his set assistant make-up artist Christina Kortum for help. She took him to a craft store called Joanne’s Fabrics to start the process. So if you have a Joanne’s Fabric store near you or even  Michael’s you are in good shape. So here is how you can be transformed into Blutbad the wolf based Wesen from the site. It’s mostly hair and teeth. You also have to worry about claws and red eyes.

So the first place to start is the hair. You can get faux fur sheets that you can use for hair. You can also use feather boas and fuzzy yarn. All these you can get at your local craft store. Cut the material into a triangle and use that as the widow’s peak. The size you cut depends on the size of your forehead. Try and find the color that best matches your hair. You can comb your real hair over it.  You can use the yarn or the feather boas for your eyebrows. You can use adhesive to glue this on. There are a couple that are recommended. One of them is Duo and the other is Spirit Gum. You may be able to get them from Sally’s Beauty Supply. You can also just draw hair on your forehead using brown or black eyeliner pencils. If you have long hair, you can also snip some of your own hair. Use wax paper to lay the hair you snip on and use Duo to glue them together. When dry you may be able to peel the hairpiece that you have created off the wax paper and then with more Duo or Spirit Gum, you can glue the hairpiece onto your forehead.

Now what do you do with red eyes. Barney uses red contact lenses on set. So what is his solution for those at home who want to recreate red eyes? He suggest using a deep dark red eye liner. Put this on the lid around the eye. Then fadie it out around the outer edges with pink and maybe purple. Barney says that the best way to get sharp teeth is to go to the store and buy a set of plastic ones. He does not recommend gluing anything to your teeth or your lips. If you cannot find then in your local craft stores, order them online. You can easily get claws by using press-on nails. You can cut them to get sharp angles but make sure they are not too sharp. You do not want to hurt yourself or anyone else for that matter. You should paint the nails black to make them look like authentic claws. You can also glue a little bit of the faux fur or the feather boa on the backs of your hands to complete the look. Remember to use Duo and not real glue.

Good Luck and hope you will be able to create a ferocious Blutbad. Sounds like a fun project for Halloween. And by the way, do not forget the blood. You can get this by mixing pancake syrup, red food coloring and Hershey’s chocolate syrup. Mix it until you get the right consistency and coloring.
