How To Make Money Recycling Scrap Metal

Many people these days recycle. We usually recycle things like newspapers, paper, plastic bottles, cardboard containers. Some even recycle clothes by sending them to thrift shops and other charities and places like Goodwill. However, very few people think about recycling scarp metal. Did you know that you can even make money recycling scrap metal? Now some of you may even be wondering what is meant by scrap metal. Scrap metal is in fact any metal that is left over from jobs that you or others may have done. These will include copper, iron, aluminum and steel. You can also include brass and wires too.

It is amazing that many people will just throw out these pieces of scrap metal not thinking for a second that they could make money from what they are throwing away. If you can not only keep the earth green by doing this type of recycling but you can also put some green in your pocket. So the first thing you need to do is figure out where you can find scrap metal. First of all you will need a truck to put the scrap metal in. Next you need to load it up with scrap metal. Where would you even find them?

One suggestion is to put out flyers in your neighborhood telling your neighbors that you would be happy to haul away their junk for free. Always look for some metal pieces in their junk. You may just be surprised at how many people may want to get rid of some old exercise equipment or bicycle or lamps that they no longer need. They would love it if you were to take it off their hands. So that is a good start. Another way you can get some scrap metal is to go to the home improvement stores and asking them if they have any scraps left over that nobody wants. They may even be able to sell them to you for really cheap.

You can also look around construction sites. There are many pieces that you may be allowed to take but do ask permission. You do not want to be accused of stealing. They may even be using what you thought was scrap metal. You can also scout around on Craigslist to see if anyone wants to get rid of junk. Also go to machine shops. There may be lots of left over pieces that may be too small to be made use of. Ask the shop owners if you can have them for free or for a small price. You can even go to the junkyards to look for the scrap metals. You may be surprised at what you find. You can even use wires. You will just have to get rid of the plastic outer layer to get to the metal.

The next step is to sell the scrap metal that you have found. So where do you go to sell scrap metal? You can go to a scrap yard that is close to you. Most of these places take scrap metal from construction companies, plumbers and even other industries. However, you can still sell your scrap metal to them even though you are not affiliated with a company. One good thing to do when you go to the scrap yards to sell your scrap metal is to separate the ferrous metals from the non-ferrous metals. So what is the difference? Get a magnet and you will be able to separate the piles quickly and easily.

Anything that is magnetic is considered ferrous. If you do not have a magnet, look on your refrigerator door. Anything that you find sticking to that door is a magnet. You may have a magnetic business card there that you may be able to use. I know that I have tons of magnets on my refrigerator door.  So if the magnet does not stick then it is considered non-ferrous.

It is also a good thing to call the scrap yard before going there. They may not take certain metals and you should find that out so that you can remove the metals from your two piles. If you do not know what your metals are, there is an easy way to figure it out. Just look at the color. Copper is of course reddish in color. Copper will bring you the most money. Aluminum is silverish in color. Some gutters and siding are aluminum. Brass is of course yellowish in color. Keys and door handles can be made of brass.  Steel is silverish and magnetic. It can also be rusty. Once you have done this, you are ready to make money recycling your scrap metal. The more you have the more money you will make.

If you enjoy reading the online publication that provides you with news on celebrities, recipes, health information, games and lots more and you are also a weight watcher, then you will be excited to know that there is a sweepstakes that you will want to enter. The prize is a Weight Watcher’s Cookbook. Apparently Weight Watchers turns 50 and so they are giving away 50 copies of the book to those who enter. It is really easy to enter. I did enter and I got the information that the winner will be notified in one or two weeks. Oh boy. I can’t wait to find out.

I have entered many sweepstakes and have never won one yet. I do not know how some people are so lucky that they win many times. I need to have to a talk with Lady Luck. She sure does not like me too much. However, that never stops me from entering. You never know. One day Lady Luck will take pity on me and say Hey it is time this person who keeps entering all these sweepstakes and never winning won.

Initially I thought counting calories was for the birds. However I saw a friend of mine who was on the program drop weight and keep losing weight. I finally asked him what diet he was on. He said he and his wife were on weight watchers and they had both lost tons of weight. I asked him what had made it successful for him. And he told me something that was surprising to me. He said he counted calories and exercised. Those are two words I never wanted to hear in the same sentence. So I asked him what he did exactly. He told me the meetings were important but that kept you on track. A strict regiment of making sure you ate the right amount of calories and exercised did make a world of difference.

For me, cooking at home was a challenge because I work long hours. In fact, I work 2 jobs. So finding the time and energy to cook healthy meals was not always a possibility. So I eat out a lot. I would try to eat food that I thought was healthy but they were apparently not. Just yesterday I went to a restaurant that listed the calorie count of every item on their menu. I almost fell off my chair and I saw how high some of the calories were for some of the foods that I eat on a regular basis. No wonder I could never lose any weight. I never thought they would be so high. So I tried to find the item on the menu that had the least amount of calories. It was not very tasty but at least I did not consume an extra 1000 calories that I did not need.

Well, I am excited to get this cookbook. Even though I usually do not have time to cook, if the recipes are simple enough, I may be able to cook at home more often. I think another things that works here is the support that you get. You can get this support online too. I think that is the key to getting to a healthy weight. You should look into the monthly pass. You get access to unlimited meetings and free etools to help you achieve your weight loss goals. I guess if you really do not want to join the program, at least start watching what you eat. Figure out how many calories you take in and how much you should take in to maintain a healthy weight. If you have that in mind at all times, then you will be successful if you add moderate exercise to that.

I usually think that anything organic is better and I usually dole out the extra cash to get them. I would buy organic any chance that I got. However, you have to be aware that not all organic products are good for you. You have to look at the ingredients list and make sure that you are getting what you think you are getting. The latest lawsuit is on organic milk and soy milk. So you can take part in the Horizon Organic and Silk Milk Class Action Lawsuit Settlement if you bought two products mentioned and some others like Yogurt, Tuberz and even others that have the Evaporated Cane Juice as one of the ingredients any time between January 1, 2005 to April 19, 2013. The company apparently misled the consumers by listing the ingredient as juice when it is actually sugar. You will have to fill out a claim form at the www.SingerECJSettlement.com site in order to get any of the benefits for this case.

If you want to get some money back because the defendants (meaning the company that sold the products) said that it did not contain as much sugar as it actually does (they basically lied to you) then you will have to fill out the claim form by October 26, 2013. This is a true deadline meaning that you cannot miss this deadline. There is no appeal process for missing this deadline. In addition you can only file if you live in the United States and bought the products in the United States.   The lawsuit that was filed is known as Brenda Singer v. WWF Operating Company. The case number is 1:13-CV-21232-UU.

Before you fill out the form however, it is a good idea to read the notice. You can get a copy of the notice on the Horizon Organic and Silk Milk Class Action Lawsuit Settlement website at www.SingerECJSettlement.com. You can also have a copy sent to you by writing to the Settlement Administrator at the address provided online at the site. A toll free phone number is also provided if you prefer to call. There are two part to the claim form that you will have to fill out. The first part which is known as Part A will ask for your information. The second part is about the purchase of the products mentioned. You must file this claim only if you bought one of the products mentioned. Then you must select whether you have an original sales receipt or if you do not. I think most people would fall into the second category. Who keeps receipts for that long? In fact, who keeps receipts at all. Most people throw away their receipts. I have thrown out all my receipts recently because they were cluttering up my desk. If you do not need them for tax purposes most people do not keep them.

So if you do have receipts, then you can get 75% of what you paid for the products. However, your claim cannot be more than $50 per household. If you do have the receipts then you must send them with your claim form. If you do not have the receipts however, then you will only get 25% of the amount that you paid for the products. You can only claim for 5 products for each household. You must also sign the form, date it and print your name on it.

The total amount of the settlement fund is $800,000. Out of this amount will be deducted the legal fees and any other administrative fees and costs. Your legal counsel in this case is Lance A. Harke of Miami Shores, Florida. You can select to hire your own lawyer but you will have to pay for this lawyer that you hired on your own. I think if you are considered a part of this settlement than you should take part. I hate it when companies try to trick you into thinking that something is healthier than it actually is. Especially if you are watching your diet and trying to lose some pounds. Even though this may be considered minor for some people, I think it affects many people negatively. I am glad that companies are being held accountable for what they put in their products and how they list them in the ingredients list.

You will be surprised at what people will buy online. Many people think that they need a product in order to be successful at selling online. This is not true. In fact you can make money selling junk online. It is amazing that people will buy what others consider junk. So in order to start selling online, you will need to find junk.

The first place you can start is in your own home. Look around your house and see things that has been sitting around for years without anyone touching or using the items. In my house that would be exercise equipment. Surprise, surprise. I really do not like to exercise or go to the gym. So I always end up getting sucked into buying equipment that promises miracles if you only used in between 10 – 20 minutes a day. Yeah, right. And they say a fool is born everyday. That is me unfortunately when it comes to exercise equipment. Those things can cost quite a bit too. And they are not cheap by any means.

Another way to find junk is to drive around during garbage days. I remember when I was in college, college students when they were leaving would throw away old sofas, desks, bedside tables, lamps, you name it. I even know of some of my friends at college who had furnished their apartments with junk that others threw out. You will need a truck to haul these large pieces away. So if you are close to a college campus, try there. That is where you will get the best pieces. Also do not be afraid to take stuff that is broken. There is even a market for broken stuff. However, do not go through anyone’s garbage. I do not think that is legal.

Yet another way that you can get junk is to put notices on bulletin boards in local businesses. You will have to create a really fun notice that tells people that you are willing to haul away their junk for free. You will not believe how much those services for hauling junk away can cost. So offering free service is the best way for you to get the junk you need.

So after finding some junk that you can sell, what is your next step? If you are going to post your stuff online, you will need to take pictures. You do not need to go out and buy a camera for this. You can use the camera on your phone. Just make sure you have good lighting. I would suggest that you take a few pictures of each item. Take pictures from different angles. People want to see what they are buying. If you do not provide a few pictures of the items, you may get emails asking for more pictures. So make sure you have a picture of every angle so that you can avoid these emails.

The next step would be to look for a place online where you can sell your stuff. Now there a number of places that you can go to. The first thing that comes to my mind when I think about selling online is eBay. That is fine if you are willing to pay fees on eBay’s website. There are a number of fees that you will have to pay just to post your junk online. So if you are new to eBay, you may want to find another place to sell. You can also sell on Amazon.com. However that also has fees associated with posting stuff online. So take the time to investigate both if you prefer to sell your stuff there. I have tried selling on eBay only to be left with fees and nothing else. So I had to pay  eBay to post my stuff online and did not manage to sell my product. Sometimes you are successful in selling and sometimes you are not.

The best place that I have found that many people do not think about is Craigslist. It is free to post there. So do not have to pay any fees and will not be out any money if your product does not sell. The trick is to find the right category to post under. You also have to be honest about the junk that you are trying to sell. If it is broken, mention that. If it is chipped, mention that. There is nothing worse than posting something and having someone complain that your stuff is no good. Also be sure that you are able to explain what your product is. The more you know about it the better. Some people look for specific stuff like mid century lamps. So if you know what it is, tell them that.  I have been able to sell quite a few products this way. Also mention that they will have to pick up the products if it is a large item like a desk that you will not be able to ship.
