Www.NBCOlympics.com/medals – Olympics Medal Count – Totals

The Olympics are in full swing and everyone wants to know who is on top in the Olympics medals count.  The numbers will shift from day to day, as people are winning medals in over 300 events.  There is a lot of pride at stake and everyone wants to be atop the London 2012 medal count standings when the Olympics are over.  The resources of nbcolympics.com/medals makes keeping track of that easy and fun. I personally would like to see the United States Team win the medal count.  However, many people will debate what constitutes winning.  For example, are you the winner in terms of country rank if you get the most Olympic medals or are you the best country to compete if you get the most gold medals.  In the past, situations have arisen where the team to win the most medals is not always the country to win the most golds.  This in essence, in my opinion, creates split bragging rights for the Olympic games.  Yes, we would always like to see a clear victor.  More importantly, we would like our country to be that winner.  However, this summer olympics you could see that bifurcated split.  Some of the favorites in the London Olympics medal count are China and the USA.

Currently, only 12 events have been determined for their respective medals.  However, there are many more to go.  Given the fact that we are only at the start, the leader board can change and the medal counts will be updated as events are decided. One way to stay abreast of changes is via the www.nbcolympics.com/medals page.  Currently, China is in the lead with a whopping 4 gold medals and 2 bronze.  Many might think that team USA would be second.  However, at this specific point in the competition, they are not. The team that is currently in second place in the Olympics overall medal count is Italy.  They have won two gold medals, two silver medals, and two bronze.

The third spot in the 2012 Olympics is currently held by the United States of America.  They have only won one gold medal.  That was won by Ryan Lochte in his 400 meter individual medley event.  The USA was expecting to pick up two medals in this event.  However, Michael Phelps had an uncharacteristically disappointing swim.  In fact, he swam the event approximately 9 seconds slower than the world record time for this event. Even more disappointing than his slow time was the fact that he did not even make it to the podium in this race.  He placed fourth and just missed the bronze medal. If the USA is going to be first in the London 2012 Olympics medal count, Michael Phelps is going to have to win medals in all his remaining races in my opinion.  NBCOlympics.com medals coverage will surely keep you updated on the latest developments at the games.

Swimming was the area where the U.S. won the majority of their medals so far.  In fact, Elizabeth Beisel won a silver in the women’s 400 meter individual relay.  China got two medals in that even, a gold and a bronze. The medal count 2012 Olympics is on and will continue to be monitored by fans alike for the next two weeks. Gymnastics will also be a potential event where the United States can pick up a lot of medals.  After all, medals will not only be awarded for the gymnastics team competition, but they will also be awarded for individual events. The way our men and women’s gymnastic teams perform could make all the difference.  If you are interested in seeing a break down of medals by gender, the www.nbcolympics.com/medals site allows you to do just that. Looking at the medal count results this way is fun and entertaining.

Nevertheless, at the end of the day, each event is a contested event.  We will cheer for our country’s representative one event at a time and hope that we are on top of the medal count standings when it is all over.  Personally, some people take this component of the Olympic games very seriously.  Yes, it is fun to look at, but remember to enjoy the entire event.  I truly feel that a competitor can be proud just qualifying for the olympics.  Winning a gold, silver, or bronze medal would transform a great accomplishment into a stellar one.  In addition to following medals counts, you can also find additional information on the Olympics on the afore mentioned page as well.  This information includes the Olympics tv schedule and results too.  The summer Olympics only come around once a year, so enjoy the thrill of watching them while they last.
